Which Way to Drive

Which Way to Drive

If the problem is haste

Then I am bashful

Consumed by decisions

Broken by dichotomies

My yes becomes a no

Down the third generation

To the right below

But what is simple

Breaks in shards in my consciousness

Overtones and the obvious

Drowned in everything

But a complacent heart

There’s so much at stake

Bearing down at a foundation

Barely feet off the ground

If I could choose and let it go

Maybe all the to and fro

Would find its center

And we wouldn’t be caught

In a winter waging

Lost causes against future tripping

But we hit the ground running

Building like snowflakes

Until at last

We were in over our heads

So lately,

Is there any better cause than love?

Is there any better life than just us?

Breath outside

And it will disappear

Slower, slower, and slowly

The thoughts collide

When the rules were simple

And we knew which way to drive
